To that end, the Department of Surgery offers a number of continuing medical education (CME) opportunities. Accredited Continuing Medical Education The Department of Surgery holds Grand Rounds every Thursday and regularly hosts Journal Clubs and conferences. Cloud CME Non-Accredited Continuing Medical Education These opportunities are not accredited by the UCI School of Medicine CME Office. Colorectal Surgery Mini-Fellowship The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery is one of a select few centers in the United States to offer mini-fellowships to train established surgeons in the techniques of minimally invasive colectomy procedures. The two-day course focuses on patient selection, procedural indications and contraindications, procedural techniques and methods for managing potential complications. Participants have the opportunity for hands-on practice in both inanimate and cadaver labs, as well as observe a live surgery and attend comprehensive lectures with leading colorectal surgeons. Gastrointestinal Surgery Training Opportunities The Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery offers several educational training programs in techniques of advanced laparoscopy for surgical residents and community physicians throughout the academic year. These programs are held in our state-of-the-art training facility, which includes both inanimate and animate laboratories.
