The Division of Transplantation Surgery at UCI School of Medicine is dedicated to conducting basic, translational and clinical research in the entire spectrum of conditions related to kidney, pancreas and islet cell transplantation. Our research projects, which are federally, industry and institutionally funded, aim to drive advancements in transplantation science and ensure continuous progress with a growing portfolio of therapies that can help our patients.

Our division provides Orange County’s sole kidney and pancreas transplant program, offering a personalized and comprehensive approach to the care of transplant patients. With a dedicated team of more than 30 transplant-specific professionals, we deliver exceptional outcomes, as confirmed by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, despite the significant increase in annual transplant procedures. We achieve this by using cutting-edge immunosuppression techniques, diligent monitoring and evidence-based protocols.

As Orange County's oldest and largest kidney transplant program, our experienced team offers patients with kidney failure and diabetes an opportunity for a healthier life. We collaborate with the National Kidney Registry to enhance access to living donor organs for all our patients, and our kidney transplant outcomes exceed the national survival average. Additionally, for patients with diabetes, we have one of the few pancreas transplant programs in the area and can offer pancreas transplantation — either alone or simultaneously with a kidney transplant — to certain diabetics who meet our criteria.
