From the Beginning

University of California, Irvine is home to a medical school rich in history and tradition that spans more than 100 years. The oldest continually operating medical school in the Los Angeles area, the School of Medicine was founded as the Pacific Sanitarium and School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1896 by A.C. Moore, one of the first graduates of osteopathic medicine, and B.W. Scheurer, a medical doctor with German and American training. The school expanded its curriculum, merged with the Los Angeles College of Osteopathy, expanded clinical and educational facilities and started awarding Medical Doctorate degrees in 1962 as the California College of Medicine. As the University of California, Irvine opened its doors in 1965, the UC Regents began to search for a medical school for its newest campus and acquired the California College of Medicine shortly after.

The Chapter aims to be a source of involvement and support for the school’s alumni and students by providing opportunities to serve as mentors and event hosts, and attend alumni gatherings in their area.

The School of Medicine Alumni Chapter is led by an elected board of directors, which consists of executive and at-large members who convene quarterly. The board serves as a resource to the students and alumni, as well as a link between the School of Medicine and its graduates.
