The Online Research Program at UCI School of Medicine is a three-week mentoring program designed to increase the exposure of high school students to research methods. This program is offered through our Office of Research.

Summer Online Research Program Details

"Discover Your Path in Medicine"

UCI MedAcademy is a five-day program designed to introduce high school students to medical careers and expand their understanding of the healthcare field. Open to high school students aged 15-19, this immersive experience offers a unique opportunity to explore medicine in a structured and engaging environment.

Program Highlights: 

• Introduction to Medical Careers: Gain insights into various healthcare professions and what a career in medicine entails. 
• Interactive Learning: Participate in hands-on activities and workshops to better understand medical concepts and practices. 
• Eligibility: Open to high school students aged 15-19. Participants must be at least 15 years old by the first day of the session they plan to attend.

The Summer Healthcare Experience (SHE) is a career exploration program designed for young women — rising juniors and seniors in high school — who are interested in learning about careers in healthcare while also providing them with the practical tools and mentorship to achieve their educational and career goals. This program is offered through the Department of Medicine.

The Summer Surgery Program inspires and empowers highly motivated, high-performing high school students to pursue their interests in medicine or related fields via intense, real-life exposure to the world of surgery. This program is offered through the Department of Urology.

Summer Surgery Details

The UCI Cancer Research Institute sponsors a summer program in cancer research for high school students. The goal is to build the pipeline for the next generation of cancer researchers.

Open Medical School (OMS) is an annual event hosted by UC PRIME Pre-Health Pathways (UC3P) in collaboration with the UCI School of Medicine. High school students from underrepresented backgrounds come to campus for a full day of hands-on medical experiences (e.g., suturing and ultrasound), and physician and student panels and mentorship.

PRIME Academies: Programs in Medical Education (PRIME) Academy

The Programs in Medical Education (PRIME) Academy is a one-week experience designed for pre-medical students dedicated to addressing the health needs of California’s Latino, African, Black and Caribbean communities. This immersive program provides participants with the knowledge, skills and experience to advance social justice and health equity in medicine.

Program Highlights: 

• Focused Learning: Gain insights and skills essential for pursuing a career in medicine with a focus on serving under-resourced communities.
• Pathway to PRIME Programs: PRIME Academy is a stepping stone to UC Irvine School of Medicine’s PRIME programs, which emphasize leadership, advocacy and service. 

UCI School of Medicine PRIME Programs: 

• PRIME-LC: Established in 2003, this five-year MD/Master’s program trains physicians to address the needs of California’s Latino communities.
• PRIME-LEAD ABC: The first national program specifically designed to develop physician-leaders for the unique health needs of African, Black and Caribbean communities.

"Empowering Future Healthcare Leaders" 

UC PRIME Pre-Health Pathways (UC3P) focuses on comprehensive academic enrichment, career development, mentorship and advising to support students from underrepresented communities and disadvantaged backgrounds in pursuing health careers. UC3P's mission is to cultivate a diverse and inclusive community of future healthcare leaders with the knowledge, support and opportunities needed to excel. UC3P is dedicated to enhancing support and advancing equity for first-generation and marginalized students. The program offers: 

• Service-Learning Opportunities: Participate in hands-on experiences at local Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and community-based initiatives. This involvement offers practical experience in providing healthcare services to underserved populations, enhancing clinical skills and fostering community engagement.

• Personal and Professional Development: Provides interactive sessions, expert insights and hands-on activities focused on effective communication, leadership and navigating healthcare.

• Mentorship & Networking: Connecting with PRIME Scholars, PRIME, Mentors, PRIME Fellows

UC3P WEBSITE

The UCI-HBCU Summer Research and Clinical Program at the UCI School of Medicine is an intensive eight-week initiative designed to prepare participants for medical school admissions and future careers in healthcare through hands-on focused training in clinical and research settings.

Throughout the program, participants will gain practical experience, knowledge, and skills in conducting laboratory and clinical research, critical thinking, problem-solving, data analysis and ethical considerations specific to these environments.

The UCI School of Medicine Postbaccalaureate Program is designed to assist applicants with disadvantaged backgrounds in gaining acceptance to medical school, with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of physicians in underserved areas.

Postbacc Program Details
