School of Medicine New Faculty Orientation

The Office of Academic Affairs is excited to announce a revamped New Faculty Orientation (NFO). The new hybrid NFO format will include a half-day, in-person session at UCI Health — Orange, followed by two 2-hour Zoom sessions in the succeeding months. Through the revamped orientation, we hope to increase faculty engagement, foster a sense of belonging at UCI for new faculty, and increase access to resources.

The hybrid format for each new faculty cohort will proceed as follows:

Day 1: Heal

In-person welcome & breakfast, meet leadership, campus/medical center tour, presentations from Academic Affairs, Clinical Affairs, etc. (4 hours)

Day 2: Teach

Zoom presentations focusing on Medical Education + Q&A. (2 hours)

Day 3: Discover

Zoom presentations focusing on Research + Q&A. (2 hours)

When a new faculty member is hired, the Office of Academic Affairs will contact them to assign their NFO cohort schedule, with a CC to their CAO/Department Administrator.*

We greatly appreciate the department’s support to ensure the faculty have time blocked on their schedules to attend all parts of the orientation. Please share this information to your clinical scheduling team or other coworkers involved in scheduling faculty.

*All faculty series at 51% or greater full-time employment (FTE) are required to attend the School of Medicine New Faculty Orientation (In-Line, In-Residence, Clinical X, HS Clinical, and Adjunct).
