Brian Cummings, PhD

cummings@hs.uci.edu
Included Series:
- Ladder Ranks
- Professor In-Residence
- Professor of Clinical X
Welcome from Dr. Cummings:
Welcome to UCI’s School of Medicine, I’m Associate Dean Cummings. I am responsible for advising senate series faculty (ladder-rank, in-residence, Clinical X, and Professors of Teaching) as they progress through the faculty ranks of Assistant, Associate, and Full “professor”.
I believe that the UC system has a very egalitarian and merit-based process with respect to promotion and tenure; my job is to help explain that process to you and help connect you with the resources to make your progression through the ranks as seamless as possible. Individuals who are new to UCI are encouraged to contact me as soon as possible for a one-on-one consultation.
While a key area of my focus as a Dean is helping advise faculty on prepping for tenure, my duties also include mid-career issues such as recommending leadership opportunities, promotions, evaluating department chairs, and advocating for SOM faculty at higher levels of the campus. While balancing work-life demands can be challenging, I believe that proactive planning can help reduce faculty stress and increase their success. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
