The Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery Division at UCI School of Medicine is dedicated to conducting research on the entire spectrum of surgical conditions that affect children. Special areas of research interest include congenital diaphragmatic hernias, extracorporeal life support and pediatric trauma. Surgical education and quality improvement are particular focuses of the pediatric general and thoracic surgery program.
The pediatric surgery team works in collaboration with multiple organizations in a collaborative manner, such as the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization, Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Study Group, University of California Fetal Consortium, Children’s Hospitals Neonatal Consortium and partnership institutions from around the country to provide high-quality studies to the academic community.
Our group of pediatric surgeons is the largest in Orange County, and all of our pediatric surgeons are fellowship-trained.

The two-year, ACGME-accredited UCI/CHOC Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery Fellowship program aims to prepare well-rounded pediatric surgeons who are academically, clinically and professionally able to meet the demands of an ever-changing landscape in medicine.
