We possess all the resources needed to stabilize and definitively treat even the most complex traumatic or burn injuries. As the only university medical center in Orange County, we have access to novel therapies and emerging technologies and help lead multicenter studies to improve care for our entire community.

All of our faculty members are board-certified or eligible in surgery and hold a certificate in surgical critical care from the American Board of Surgery. In addition, our Surgical Intensive Care Unit has won consecutive Beacon Gold Awards from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Our division’s Surgical Critical Care Fellowship was the first to be approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education on the West Coast, and it is the only one in Orange County. Our faculty members train highly competent clinical and academic surgeons and surgical intensivists, currently graduating three fellows each year. We are also a leader in surgical research.
