Through this highly interactive didactic and lab-based course, participants will learn fundamentals of human anatomy including major elements of the Musculoskeletal, Nervous, Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Digestive Systems through hands-on human cadaveric dissection in the newly renovated UC Irvine gross anatomy laboratory. Additionally, participants will be introduced to a range of clinical skills such as suturing and ultrasonography while developing team-based skills. Who Should Apply: This program is ideal for pre-medical, pre-dental and pre-allied health students seeking to gain a better appreciation of the anatomical and functional relationships of the human body. Overview The Clinical Anatomy Academy features a one-week, full-day schedule that combines classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory experience. Sessions are led by the program director and supported by medical student preceptors. The program meets on the UC Irvine campus, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Typical Daily Schedule Morning Session One-hour clinical anatomy lecture or didactic session Three-hour laboratory session focused on human cadaveric dissection Lunch Break Meals are provided between morning and afternoon sessions Afternoon Session One-hour clinical anatomy lecture or didactic session Three-hour laboratory session In addition to clinical gross anatomy and human dissection, the curriculum introduces students to radiographic imaging, including the fundamentals of ultrasonography, and provides exposure to essential clinical skills such as suturing techniques. All laboratory sessions utilize human donors from the UC Irvine Willed Body Program. Participants are expected to demonstrate the utmost respect for donors at all times. The embalming fluid used in the program does not contain formaldehyde, offering a safer alternative for cadaveric study. Please note: Course participants will not receive college credit or any equivalent credentialing. Participants and Fees Eligible Participants Age: Participants must be at least 18 years old due to the sensitive nature of working with whole-body human donors. Academic Status: Eligible applicants include registered undergraduate or graduate students from any academic institution, non-enrolled students interested in applying to a professional program, and students who are set to graduate. Program Capacity: Enrollment is limited to 24 participants. Inclusivity: Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Prerequisites: Prior coursework in anatomy is recommended but not required. Fees and Materials Program Fee: The fee for this one-week workshop is $2,000. This covers all necessary tools and gloves for dissections, laboratory utilization fees and course materials. Included Materials: Participants will receive a Clinical Anatomy Academy T-shirt and other UC Irvine–affiliated materials. Attire: Students are required to purchase and wear their own scrubs (any color) during all laboratory sessions. UC Irvine–branded scrubs are available for purchase through FIGS.
