Advance Anatomy and Neurobiology
Support anatomy and neurobiology research, and connect with scientists leading the way in finding cures for neurological disorders.

Remarkable progress has been seen recently in treatments for individuals diagnosed with heart disease, cancer and infectious diseases. The nervous system presents the next frontier. There remains much to learn about the cause, progression and treatment of neurological diseases.
Neurons provide the total experience of the world: what is sensed, identity and how learning and interaction occur. Learning about the nervous system reveals how life is experienced. When the nervous system is not functioning well, the effects on patients and their families can be devastating.

Funding Initiatives
The cost of conducting neuroscience research is rising, while government funding is not keeping pace.
Examples of expenses include:
- Electron Microscope Use: $50-$100/hour
- Research Antibodies: ~$300
- Fluorescence Microscopes: >$25,000
- MRI/PET Scans: >$1,000
Annual operating costs for neuroscience labs at UCI run into several hundreds of thousands of dollars in direct costs for materials, overhead, and personnel. Additionally, the cost of training the next generation of neuroscientists is significant, with training one student annually costing over $35,000.

The gap between research costs and available funding presents a significant opportunity for individuals to make an impact. Support contributes to cutting-edge research and helps shape the future of neuroscience. Contributors will have opportunities to meet with researchers and stay updated on their funded projects.
