Research Centers Reeve-Irvine Research Center The Reeve-Irvine Research Center (RIRC) is dedicated to basic scientific research to discover novel approaches to improve recovery of function after spinal cord injury (SCI). Additionally, we seek to engage investigators throughout California and the entire world in advancing scientific knowledge through sharing results, strategies and communication. Director: Oswald Steward (Professor, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology) View Center Epilepsy Research Center At UC Irvine, the Epilepsy Research Center (EpiCenter) is leading the way toward a cure for epilepsy. From cutting-edge basic science to transformative clinical research, we are working across boundaries to bring our scientific discoveries into the clinic and earning worldwide recognition along the way. Director: Robert Hunt (Associate Professor, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology) View Center Conte Center The Conte Center explores how early-life experiences, particularly adversity, shape brain development and increase the risk of mental health challenges. Our research highlights chaotic, unpredictable sensory signals from parents or the environment as a significant form of adversity—one that can be addressed through prevention strategies. Baram (Professor, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, Pediatrics) View Center Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory (CNLM) Founded in 1983, the UC Irvine Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory is a pioneering institute focused on understanding the brain mechanisms of learning and memory. By integrating diverse disciplines, the CNLM investigates memory processes at all levels and has educated numerous researchers who contribute significantly to the field and its applications in education and brain health. Director: Michael Yassa, PhD View Center UCI Center for the Study of Cannabis (CSC) The UCI Center for the Study of Cannabis addresses the medical and scientific challenges posed by cannabis legalization. Co-Director: Daniele Piomelli (Professor, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology) View Center Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Center The UC Irvine Stem Cell Research Center is a dynamic center encompassing a diverse array of interdisciplinary investigators that span the schools of Medicine, Biological Sciences, Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, Arts and the Program in Public Health. Our state-of-the-art, LEED Platinum certified research and clinical building houses 25 of our 65 center faculty members. Collaborating across disciplines, the center also contributes to acupuncture research through the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute.
