UCI MedAcademy Home Education Education > Summer Programs > UCI MedAcademy An Immersive Medical School Experience UCI MedAcademy is a five-day experience designed to introduce high school students to medical careers and broaden students’ understanding of the healthcare field. UCI MedAcademy is open to high school students (including 2023 graduates) ages 15-19. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by the first day of the session they plan to attend. Program Dates Subject to Change. Session 1 In-person June 23-27, 2025 Session 2 In-person July 7-11, 2025 Activities UCI School of Medicine is closely monitoring the community spread of COVID-19. If local health authorities and UCI Campus policy permits, we plan to hold in-person sessions of the MedAcademy. Our program is a one-week (Mon-Fri) day camp experience running from approximately 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM daily. Students will participate in the following: Medical Resuscitation In the renowned UCI Medical Education Simulation Center, learners will learn and practice the basics of medical resuscitation. Procedure Workshops Scholars will learn the basics in suturing, ultrasound and other common medical procedures. Standardized Patient Experiences Students will interview and examine standardized patient actors to gather medical information and work in teams to come to a diagnosis. Leadership Training Our scholars will receive instruction on being a successful physician-leader from experienced faculty and volunteers. Medical Student Forum Current UCI Medical Students will give fascinating insight into the life of a medical student. Medical Lectures Scholars will learn about a wide range of clinical topics including clinical reasoning, anatomy, CPR, etc. Advocacy Training Scholars will learn the key ways that physicians can advocate for the health of their communities Games and Team Building Build strong relationships with your scholar cohort as you play games and solve competitive puzzles with your team. Please have the name and email of this individual ready prior to starting your application. Transcripts: Submit a copy of an unofficial transcript by uploading directly to your MedAcademy application. Tuition: $1,750. It is due within two weeks of notification of acceptance into UCI MedAcademy. Scholarships: UCI is committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to become a MedAcademy Scholar. Partial and full scholarships are available to students with financial hardship. Scholarship applications will be sent via email to students who request financial assistance when submitting their MedAcademy application. Application FAQ How do I apply? Prior to starting your application, please have the following items ready for submission: Unofficial high school transcript Name and email of a reference from your high school Answers to the following essay questions (750 character limit each): Briefly tell us why you are interested in the UCI MedAcademy. Please describe one activity or life experience that you take pride in. Please describe a challenge or disappointment and your approach to managing that challenge. How does my reference submit a recommendation? Reference writers should submit recommendation letters by emailing medacademy@hs.uci.edu. Please title subject lines as "Reference for (applicant name)." How will I know my application is complete? After your reference completes their submission, you will receive an email notifying you that your application is complete. What are you looking for in an applicant? The MedAcademy is looking for scholars who excel (or have shown improvement) in their sciences course work, have interest in healthcare and demonstrate passion and leadership within their schools and communities. Program FAQ Where do programs take place? UCI Medical Education, Building 836 3rd Floor: Colloquium 836 Health Sciences Rd Irvine CA 92617 Directions Where can I park/get dropped off? You can park in either lot 82 or 84 (Zone 2 Commuter Areas). Those being dropped off can be dropped off at the front of lot 83, the School of Medicine entrance. When should I arrive? Breakfast will be served daily at 8:30 AM and programming will start promptly at 9:00 AM. When does programming end? Programming ends at 4:00 PM daily. We expect prompt pickup of students as all supervision of scholars ends at 4:00PM. Are meals provided? Breakfast and lunch are served daily. What should I bring? Laptop or tablet (not required) Water bottle Sunscreen Walking shoes All required prescriptions, stored in a clear plastic bag. What will we be doing every day? Our programs will deliver a mix of dynamic lectures, small groups, panels, games, procedure workshops and simulation experiences to give you a wide view of the field of medicine. Are we going to be able to observe clinical care? Due to restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic, our academies will not allow for any patient observation or interaction. We do provide simulated experiences to give learners an authentic clinical experience. How do I access WiFi? The UCI MedAcademy follows the UCI Campus Policy requiring full vaccination status for scholars to participate in in-person activities. There approved exceptions to COVID-19 vaccination based on a Medical Exemption, Disability, or Religious Objection. Scholars may apply for exemption by emailing medacademy@hs.uci.edu.
