Postdoctoral Scholars conduct research under the general oversight of a faculty mentor in preparation for a career position in academia, industry, government or the nonprofit sector.

Project Scientists make significant and creative contributions to a research or creative project. Appointees may be ongoing members of a research team or may be employed for a limited period of time to contribute high-level skills.

Specialists are engaged in any specialized research, professional activity, University and/or public service. They are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions to the university's research enterprise and to achieve recognition in the professional and scientific community.
