We require the following documents: Three or four letters of recommendation We prefer that at least two of these letters are from psychiatrists; a chair’s letter is not required. USMLE or COMLEX scores We prefer USMLE scores. USMLE or COMLEX Step I and Step II scores should be included. Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) letter Formerly called the dean’s letter. Foreign Medical Graduate Certificate If applicable, provide a certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and a Medical Board of California status letter. Medical School Transcript International Medical School Applicants Please carefully review these guidelines if you are an international applicant, as they provide important information about the application process and visa requirements for our program. California-Specific Requirements International medical graduates (IMGs) who wish to pursue post-graduate training in California may have specific requirements. You can obtain further information from the Medical Board of California. Visa Status The University of California only accepts J-1 visas for international applicants. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must provide proof of your visa or residency status. If you have a current J-1 visa, you will also need a current ECFMG certificate. F-1 Visas F-1 visas must be issued by a U.S. medical school to be accepted by the University of California. The university cannot issue H-1 visas for international medical graduates. Interviews All interviews will be conducted remotely via Zoom. Below is a typical interview day schedule. 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.: Program Overview by Chief Residents This session introduces our program, where our chief residents offer insights and an overview of what you can expect. 9:35 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Three or Four Interviews by Faculty and Residents Each interview will last approximately 20 minutes. Breaks are scheduled in between to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. Optional Virtual Meetings with Residents Following your interviews and upon acceptance, we will arrange optional virtual meetings with current residents. These meetings will offer you an opportunity to gain insights and perspectives on training at UCI directly from current residents. Second Looks Second looks are optional and designed to facilitate your rank order list decision. We will arrange them after all virtual interviews have been conducted and the program has locked in its rank order list to allow you to learn about our program without any pressure.
