The most advanced care is available for all forms of congenital or acquired blood and bone marrow disorders, including:

  • All forms of anemia, including sickle cell anemia and thalassemia
  • Bone marrow disorders such as aplastic anemia, metabolic storage disease, congenital blood syndromes requiring bone marrow or stem cell transplant or gene therapy
  • All white cell and immune deficiency disorders
  • Vascular malformations and hemangioma
  • Coagulation abnormalities, such as hemophilia, Von Willebrand disease and related bleeding disorders, as well as excessive clotting disorders such as thrombophilia, deep venous clots or stroke
  • Prevention of bleeding and clotting problems, with particular experience in caring for patients on cardiopulmonary bypass or in an intensive care setting

Our division has a Center for Inherited Blood Disorders’ Region IX Hemostasis/Thrombosis Program, affording our patient population with access to expert diagnosis of rare bleeding disorders. We also serve as a California Children’s Services provider for the treatment of immune deficiency, hemophilia and related bleeding disorders, sickle cell disease and thalassemia/hemoglobinopathies, and anemia due to lead ingestion. The division has an established stem cell transplant center for blood disorders and stem cell collection. 

Advanced Training in Pediatric Hematology & Oncology

In partnership with Children's Health of Orange County (CHOC), UCI School of Medicine offers a three-year, ACGME-accredited Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program that aims to develop outstanding pediatric hematologists and oncologists who will also serve as the next generation of innovators and leaders in the field.
