Expertise in Child Maltreatment Prevention, Evaluation, Management & Intervention
The Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics provides expertise in the evaluation of children when there are concerns for possible child maltreatment, including abuse, neglect and exploitation. The populations we serve are from Orange County and the surrounding communities.

The division’s faculty members are board-certified child abuse pediatricians. The providers maintain teaching responsibilities within the UCI School of Medicine, CHOC facilities and Miller's Children's Hospital. They coordinate the training and education of medical students, nurse practitioner students, and pediatric and family medicine residents through standardized rotations with the Child Abuse Service Team. They also coordinate and provide interdisciplinary education for non-medical professionals, community agencies, medical sub-specialists and community medical providers through trainings and conferences.
The division also coordinates its clinical responsibilities with many multidisciplinary providers throughout Orange County, including law enforcement, social services, county prosecutors, victim advocates and court services, as well as community mental health and primary care providers. Clinical care is provided at UCI Medical Center, CAST, Miller Children's Hospital, CHOC Children's Hospital and the CHOC PANDA Clinic. Additionally, dependent on the clinical site, referrals may be received from community agencies, medical providers and families.
