Clinical Expertise

Our UCI Health Diabetes Center is the only university-based, comprehensive diabetes center in Orange County. We provide a full range of diabetes services, including inpatient consultative care, outpatient medical management, and comprehensive diabetes self-management education. Our philosophy is that diabetes management should be individualized and patient-centered. We also believe that diabetes is a systemic disease affecting many organs. We therefore work closely with other specialists, including cardiologists, nephrologists, neurologists, hepatologists and podiatrists, to prevent and treat diabetic complications. 

Division faculty members regularly meet with the neurosurgery team to review and discuss the diagnosis and treatment of pituitary disorders. We also have a tumor board with ENT and endocrine surgery for treating thyroid and parathyroid tumors. These interdisciplinary approaches to managing endocrine diseases result in excellent outcomes, for which the diabetes and endocrinology specialty at UCI School of Medicine was ranked in the top 50 nationwide by U.S. News & World Report in 2023. The Orange County Medical Association also continuously recognizes our faculty members as Physicians of Excellence.

The division’s pediatric endocrinologists have extensive experience with diagnostic services and treatment plans for young patients with glandular disorders, Turner's syndrome, ambiguous genitalia, and precocious or delayed puberty.

The division provides clinical service and training opportunities in six locations: UCI Medical Center at Orange, Gottschalk Medical Office in Irvine, and UCI Health Medical Group in Tustin, Laguna Hills, Costa Mesa and Yorba Linda.
