Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency Program

The five-year, ACGME-accredited Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency program provides comprehensive training in a supportive learning environment.

Our Program

The residency provides comprehensive training that emphasizes hands-on surgical education, graded autonomy in clinical decision-making, exploration of research opportunities and the importance of lifelong education in a supportive, friendly atmosphere. Our dynamic faculty are from a variety of backgrounds, and all share a passion for clinical excellence and teaching.

Welcome to Our Program

As the program director for the UCI Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency program, I want to thank you for your interest in our program. We are proud of our residency program, largely because of the individuals who comprise it. As such, we truly enjoy the process of meeting and evaluating our resident applicants each year. We are eager to get to know our applicants and to highlight what makes our program great.

“I was fortunate enough to complete an audition rotation at UCI, and from the beginning of the process, I knew it was a special place. Everyone I met loved teaching and having students. The residents are encouraged from an early point in their training to develop surgical skills. Furthermore, the volume and diversity of the patient population makes for an expansive clinical training program. I speak Spanish, and the opportunity to care for so many Spanish speakers in the UCI patient population made this the perfect training program for me. The location certainly did not hurt in my deliberations either. Orange County cannot be beat!”

"I ranked UCI, my home program, very highly because I felt valued and accepted by everyone. The program has allowed me to grow immensely both as a physician and individual. Senior residents lead and teach important clinical and surgical skills, and provide emotional support. My co-residents are extremely flexible and supportive. The attendings are excellent teachers who have allowed for graduated surgical and clinical autonomy. Finally, the nurses, surgical technicians, medical assistants, program coordinator and other staff are incredibly competent and kind individuals who want to see us succeed."
