The UCI Department of Emergency Medicine Research Fellowship in Population Health is designed to train junior faculty investigators in the field of emergency medicine research and population health. The goal of the fellowship is to assist academic-minded emergency physicians in becoming funded clinical research scientists. 

The two-year fellowship focuses on advanced clinical research skills. The fellow will have protected time and educational funding to formally pursue an MPH or MS degree focusing on research methodology. In addition, the fellow will gain valuable administrative experience in functioning as a research director. 

  • Deliver two lectures per year to emergency medicine residents in the focus area.
  • Participate in weekly research meetings with faculty mentor(s).
  • Participate in the Emergency Medicine Undergraduate Research Associates Program (established in 1997), one of the most successful in the country.
  • Participate in other departmental educational activities such as Journal Club, Grand Rounds, case conferences and resident/student teaching.
