Message from the Chair

I am deeply honored to serve as Chair of the Department of Medicine at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. This is a time of tremendous growth and opportunity as we expand our reach across the health system—advancing care, driving discovery and educating the next generation of medical leaders.

The Department of Medicine is the largest academic and clinical department within UCI Health, comprising 11 divisions, nearly 300 faculty, 53 advanced practice providers and over 250 dedicated administrative, clinical and research staff. Our educational mission is equally robust, with 121 Internal Medicine residents and 79 fellows across 11 ACGME-accredited and 2 non-ACGME accredited fellowship programs. Our trainees benefit from exposure to diverse clinical settings, preparing them to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities.

Our mission is to provide accessible, patient-centered care of the highest quality, while cultivating compassionate, forward-thinking clinicians and scientists. We are proud to be home to thought leaders and mentors in basic, clinical and translational science—whose collaborative research and clinical trials span the full spectrum of human disease and offer real hope for our patients.
