Nicholas Garcia, MS3

Leadership and mentorship can thrive in all facets of our campus community, and Nicholas Garcia, MS3, is a testament to that fact. Prior to being admitted to the UCI School of Medicine, he served on the Board of Directors of the Mabuhay Health Center, a University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) student-run free community health clinic targeting underserved Filipino American residents of San Francisco’s South of Market (SOMA) District.

He led a team of volunteers in coordinating free health education workshops, health screening clinics and cooking classes for the community. His dedication to the Filipino American community has continued to thrive at UCI, where he has been a dedicated student leader for Filipino Americans in Medicine (FAIM). Through FAIM, Nicholas has developed close relationships with seven undergraduate mentees, helping them to navigate coursework, MCAT and research and clinical opportunities. He has also collaborated with the Pilipinx Pre-Health Undergraduate Student Organization (PUSO) at UCI, demonstrating his holistic dedication to strengthening pathways for Filipino American students into the medical field.
