Two School of Medicine professors ranked Best Female Scientists in the World

Research.com recently released its 2024 ranking of Best Female Scientists in the World, which included Susan O’Brien, MD, and Hoda Anton-Culver, PhD, from the UC Irvine School of Medicine.

O’Brien, a professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, was ranked 26th in the nation and 35th in the world among female scientists. She is an internationally recognized leader in the research of treatments for both chronic and acute leukemias, and has developed several important therapies now regarded as the standard of care for chronic lymphocytic leukemia. At UCI, O’Brien also serves as associate director for clinical science at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and medical director of the Sue & Ralph Stern Center for Cancer Clinical Trials & Research.

Anton-Culver, a Donald Bren Professor and Distinguished Professor of medicine at UC Irvine, ranked 303rd in the nation and 496th in the world among best female scientists. Her research interests include precision medicine, cancer epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, disease prevention and translational epidemiology. Anton-Culver is also the director of UCI’s Genetic Epidemiology Research Institute and leads the All of Us Southern California Consortium.
