Acharya, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology. Devyn Billingsley/UCI Graduate Division School of Medicine PhD student, Onwodi Ifejeokwu, from the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology, and part of the Acharya Lab, competed in the May 2024 UC Grad Slam Finals! Grad Slam is a systemwide competition that showcases and awards the best three-minute research presentations by graduate scholars. Onwodi was this year’s UCI Grad Slam winner for her presentation on “Kill the cancer: Spare the brain.” Each year, approximately 2 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer. With more effective therapies leading to longer life expectancies, there has been a massive influx of cancer survivors suffering from unintended, debilitating side effects, including cancer therapy-related cognitive impairments. Onwodi's future research will further refine the tools to treat cancer and improve quality of life for these survivors. After taking first place at the UC Irvine finals, Onwodi represented the School of Medicine at the University of California systemwide finals, held at the LinkedIn campus in San Francisco, on May 3, 2024. We’re extremely proud to have Onwodi represent our school in the race for the grad slammy! Well done Onwodi!
