Michael J. Stamos, MD, honored at National Hispanic Healthcare Foundation Gala

Michael J. Stamos, MD, dean of the UC Irvine School of Medicine, was honored for his work promoting Hispanic healthcare scholarships and providing support for the Program in Medical Education for the Latino Community (PRIME-LC) program at the annual National Hispanic Healthcare Foundation (NHHF) gala held in Los Angeles on Nov. 22, 2024.

"I'm proud to stand alongside the National Hispanic Healthcare Foundation in this important mission," said Stamos. "We are committed to be a school where everyone can thrive, including our Latinx students and employees, as well as the communities we serve in Orange County and beyond."

The NHHF honorees included:(pictured above from left to right) John L. Dalrymple, MD, dean of Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine; Carolyn C. Meltzer, MD, dean of USC Keck School of Medicine; Dean Michael J. Stamos, MD; Xavier Becerra, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services: Annette M. Walker, president of City of Hope Orange County; Elena V. Rios, MD, president of the National Hispanic Health Foundation; James Cruz, MD, president of Latinx Physicians of CA. 

In 2004, NHHF established the Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship program and its first gala in New York City for medical, nursing, dental, pharmacy and public health students with outstanding academic records and leadership who are committed to serving Hispanics.

As of January 2024, NHHF has awarded over $2 million to 412 scholarship recipients. This year, the scholarship program features awards of $5,000 annually for up to four years, as well as individual scholarship awards of $2,000 each.
