Dear Colleagues,

Yesterday, the School of Medicine completed a three-day visit from the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME). The LCME is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to an MD degree.

More than 150 participants and contributors participated in the visit, including administrators, chairs, faculty, residents and students from across the School of Medicine. The LCME survey team was extremely complimentary of our school and the overall organization of the visit.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Julie Youm, PhD, associate dean of education compliance and quality, and Shaun Langer, executive director of medical education, for their leadership during the LCME visit, serving as the faculty accreditation lead and survey visit coordinator, respectively. We would also like to thank Zahra Dabzadeh, Priscila Guerrero and Cesar Nava, who are members of the core survey coordinating team, as well as the entire medical education team for their contributions to a seamless visit.

Finally, we would like to recognize all members of the School of Medicine community for their amazing work every day in carrying out our tripartite mission: Discover. Teach. Heal. Our excellence in all three areas and our school’s positive culture truly impressed everyone involved.

The survey team will provide a draft report in 30 days, and LCME will make its final determination in June 2025. We look forward to sharing the positive results with you in June.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Stamos, MD
Dean, UCI School of Medicine
