Hoda Anton-Culver, PhD, director of the All of Us Research Program.

Hoda Anton-Culver, PhD, Donald Bren Professor and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Medicine at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, is one of two recipients of this year's Women in Science Award from the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA). She will receive the honor with Martha K. Terris, MD, FACS, from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, at the 110th Annual AMWA Meeting, which runs from March 28-30, 2025.

AMWA’s Woman in Science Award is given to honor women who have made exceptional contributions to medical science, especially in women’s health, through their basic and/or clinical research, publications and leadership in their field.

Anton-Culver received her PhD in epidemiology from University of St. Andrews in Scotland. She is the founding chair of the Department of Epidemiology and graduate PhD and MS degrees in epidemiology at UC Irvine and director of the UCI Genetic Epidemiology Research Institute, which focuses on integration of academic research, education, and community efforts. Her research takes advantage of population genetics to predict the proportion of disease attributed to genetic variation and exposure to environmental risk factors, focusing on cancer etiology and population-based precision medicine with special emphasis on molecular genetic characterization, genetic-phenotype correlation, and genotype-environment interaction associated with disease causation. Anton-Culver leads precision medicine research programs as the principal investigator of the NIH-funded All of Us Research Program’s Southern California Consortium at UC Irvine.

"Dr. Hoda Anton-Culver’s groundbreaking contributions to epidemiology and precision medicine have left an indelible mark on medical science. A leader in genetic epidemiology, her research has advanced our understanding of cancer etiology, genotype-environment interactions, and population-based precision medicine. Through her visionary leadership, extensive publications and commitment to advancing women’s health, she has transformed the field and paved the way for future scientists. Her impact exemplifies the spirit of the Women in Science Award, making her a truly deserving honoree," said Dr. Elizabeth Garner, AMWA awards chair.
