IHOPE Fellowship Details

• Certificate & Credit: Earn a Certificate of Completion from the UC Irvine School of Medicine (50+ total training hours).
   
• Cohort Timeline: Jan. 1–Sept. 30, 2027.
   
• Two Mandatory In-Person Intensives: Jan. 15–16, 2027 (12–15 hours) at the Essentials of Primary Care Older Persons Health Conference at VEA Newport Beach, California.
   
• Aug. 13–14, 2027: IHOPE Fellows Conference at the Gaylord Pacific Resort, Chula Vista, CA
   
• Live Virtual Webinars: Held on the third and fourth Mondays of each month at 12 p.m. PT via Zoom (one-hour sessions).
   
• Faculty Mentorship: Monthly small-group mentorship session with an IHOPE faculty member.
   
• Alumni Benefit: Access to complimentary career-long learning upon completion.

To receive a UC Irvine School of Medicine Certificate of Completion, fellows must fulfill the following:

• In-Person Sessions: Attend and actively participate in the mandatory January and August weekend intensives.
   
• Webinar Attendance: Attend a minimum of 80% of live teleconference teaching sessions.
   
• Faculty Mentorship: Complete a monthly small-group mentorship session.
   
• Program Evaluation: Complete all required cohort surveys and feedback forms.

The TNT IHOPE Fellowship combines expert mentorship with practical training focused on the unique integrated health needs of older adults.

Core Clinical Competencies

Through dedicated faculty guidance, fellows develop practical mastery in:

• Targeted Assessments: Complete evidence-informed and efficient psychiatric interviews tailored for geriatric patients.
   
• Diagnosis & Treatment: Effectively manage common late-life integrated health and psychiatric conditions, including the geriatric 5Ms, mood, anxiety, psychotic and substance use disorders.
   
• Complex Care Integration: Address the interconnected medical, behavioral health, cognitive and social drivers affecting older adults.
   
• Train-New-Trainer Leadership: Gain strategies and skills to teach these core primary care psychiatry principles to colleagues in your local clinic.

• Multi-Complexity: Addressing multiple chronic conditions
   
• Mind: Dementia, depression and cognitive health
   
• Mobility: Falls, frailty and functional longevity
   
• Medications: Managing polypharmacy and deprescribing strategies
   
• What Matters Most: Aligning care with patient values, goals and preferences

Whole-Person Health: Safe exercise, spirituality, end-of-life planning, serious illness conversations and elder abuse recognition.

• Mood & Anxiety: Late-life depression, anxiety disorders, insomnia and sleep health.
   
• Cognitive & Complex Care: Delirium, trauma, substance use disorders (SUDs) and early detection, treatment and prevention of dementia.
   
• Social Drivers: Addressing senior loneliness, isolation and health equity.

• Chronic & Neurological Disease: Common cancers, infectious disease prevention, neurological disorders and heart health optimization.
   
• Pain & Safety: Evidence-based pain management and safe prescribing protocols.

• CME Credit: Approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
   
• Included Resources: Participants receive custom primary care psychiatry curriculum reading material developed by UC Irvine TNT faculty, with a core emphasis on culturally competent, person-centered care.
