Meet Our Residents

Kevin Jimenez

Kevin is a California native who developed a passion for medical physics while working in the Department of Radiation Oncology at UCLA, where he earned his BS in Biophysics in 2022. He completed his MS at the University of Pennsylvania in 2026, where his thesis focused on designing range modulators for proton FLASH radiation therapy. He hopes to continue his FLASH research at UC Irvine.

Kevin has a strong clinical interest in brachytherapy, having observed and participated in procedures at the University of Pennsylvania and UC Irvine. He is also interested in treatment planning and adaptive radiotherapy and is an active participant in the AAPM Southern California Chapter.

Outside the clinic, Kevin's curiosity has taken him from New York City and Barcelona to Yosemite, with many more destinations on his list. He is a keen music lover and concertgoer who has run the Philadelphia Love Run Half Marathon and is training for the Orange County Marathon. He is happiest on a sunny Southern California beach with a croissant from his favorite Vietnamese bakery.

Jessica Salas, PhD

Originally from Massena, New York, Salas earned a BS in Biomolecular Science from Clarkson University in 2016. She went on to earn an MS in Veterinary Biomedical Science from Kansas State University in 2020 and a PhD in Medical Physics from UCLA in 2023.

During her time at Kansas State University, she unexpectedly witnessed a giraffe being brought into the veterinary clinic — a memorable experience that reflects her unique path through biomedical and veterinary sciences. Beyond academia, she enjoys exploring new cultures through food and is an avid reader of mystery and thriller novels. She has also traveled to Australia, where she saw koalas and capybaras up close.

Many of our UCI Radiation Oncology Physics Residency graduates have gone into academic and community practice at desirable locations in California and throughout the country.
