First Practice in California

Our division was the first practice in California — the first academic practice and the first hematology/oncology practice affiliated with an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center — to earn Quality Oncology Practice Initiative certification from the American Society of Clinical Oncology. This certification recognizes oncology practices that meet rigorous standards for high-quality cancer care.

Beyond the UCI Medical Center

Beyond the UCI Medical Center, our division extends its expertise to UCI Health’s Community Cancer Network, which includes satellite sites in Newport, Costa Mesa, Yorba Linda and Laguna Hills. In 2020, the division launched a Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy program, which is fully accredited by the Foundation for the Acceleration of Cellular Therapy. We began construction on a current Good Manufacturing Practice cellular production facility in 2021.

Tumor-Specific Teams

In addition to treating noncancerous hematologic conditions, our division operates in Tumor-Specific teams. Our faculty members have expertise in the treatment of breast, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, genitourinary, gynecological, head and neck, lymphoid, myeloid, dermatologic, thoracic and orthopedic cancers.

Supportive Oncology Program

Furthermore, our division offers a Supportive Oncology program through the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute. This program provides an array of integrative treatments and services, including art, music, occupational, speech, physical and dance/movement therapy, medical genetics, dental care, audiology, nutrition counseling and cancer navigators.
