Who We Are
UC Irvine’s Department of Surgery faculty members have expertise in multiple complex diseases and subspecialties, enabling the department to become one of the region’s most prestigious clinical, research and academic surgical programs. We are one of an elite group of institutions nationwide to be named a Level I Accredited Educational Institute by the American College of Surgeons.
Our department offers surgical fellowships and residencies in nearly every specialty, and our general surgery residency is one of the most competitive in the country. We provide world-class care across all its divisions to a diverse patient population. UCI Medical Center, our clinical home base, is a designated Level I trauma center, comprehensive cancer center and verified burn center.
Our faculty comprises highly skilled surgeons, researchers and educators who have pioneered several minimally invasive surgical approaches, technologies and therapies across multiple subspecialties to improve healthcare.
