Innovation & Invention Impactful Research Seed Grants Resources Surgery Research Symposium The UC Irvine Department of Surgery has hosted an annual Research Symposium since 2021. The symposium allows residents, fellows and students who work with Department of Surgery faculty to showcase their outstanding research. The top three presentations are selected by a panel of judges for the best research presentation award and a cash prize. The symposium also features research presentations from faculty who recently received surgery seed grants. The fourth annual symposium was held on August 22, 2024, at UC Irvine Medical Center. Jeffry Nahmias, MD, and Maheswari Senthil, MD, were the program facilitators. Cristina Ferrone, MD, professor of surgery and chair of the Jim and Eleanor Randall Department of Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, was the keynote speaker.
