UC Irvine’s Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics Laboratory provides clinical testing support for deceased and living donor solid-organ (kidney and pancreas) transplantation, related and unrelated donor hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, platelet transfusion support, and disease-association and drug-sensitivity testing.

The laboratory is accredited by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and the American Association for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI).

Trainees will be involved in test procedures, including:

  • HLA typing by NGS, SSO, gRT-PCR
  • KIR typing by SSO, gRT-PCR
  • Anti-HLA antibody testing multiplex bead array (Luminex)
  • Crossmatch testing flow cytometry
  • Disease association testing, including A29, B27, B5 (B51 and B52), narcolepsy and celiac panel
  • Drug sensitivity testing (abacavir, carbamazepine)
  • Chimerism testing (NGS)
