The educational focus of the Hospitalist Program is on the training of medical students, nurse practitioner students, residents and fellows.

Faculty members provide the majority of training in the inpatient wards and provide consultation services, as well as in the perioperative and palliative care clinics.

The Hospitalist Program, through its educational program, seeks to foster the highest possible commitment to individual patients and to the community.

The values we promote include the following:

  • Patient care
  • Education
  • Scholarship
  • Professional growth
  • Professionalism
  • Altruism
  • Humanism in medical care and education

Hospitalist faculty members are consistently recognized as outstanding teachers and are active participants in an enhanced medical student and resident curriculum development and mentoring program.

Center for Future Health Professionals

UC Irvine's Center for Future Health Professionals was founded in 2007 by Dr. Behnoosh Afghani, a pediatric hospitalist, to inspire youth to seek healthcare careers and to provide guidance about how to prepare for attending a health professional school. The center provides Orange County youth with the opportunities and resources they need to succeed through after-school mentoring programs and workshops led by healthcare professionals.
