Applicants must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Our program code is 3000521407.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must meet the licensure requirements in California and must have attended a medical school approved by the Medical Board of California (MBC) or the Osteopathic Medical Board (OMBC).
  • International medical graduates must have a current Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate. Passing USMLE Steps is required.
  • Non-U.S. citizens must obtain an ECFMG-issued J-1 visa or provide proof of permanent resident status in the United States. We do not offer H-1B visa sponsorship for ACGME training positions.
  • Physicians who graduated from a medical school in Canada are not required to take USMLE Steps for ECFMG certification/J-1 visa. They must, however, provide a USMLE/ECFMG ID number.
  • Our program has mandatory VA Medical Center Long Beach (LBVA) rotations. Therefore, Selective Service registration or proof of exempt status is required for individuals who are designated as male on their birth certificates. Individuals who are designated as male on their birth certificates who did not register for Selective Service are not eligible to rotate to the VA. Non-U.S. citizens may be eligible for an exemption if they meet the exemption criteria.
