They are supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other extramural sources. In 2022, the department became a top 30 pathology department for NIH funding. The department hosts individual and center-based research programs with translational and clinical goals in laboratory diagnostics, neurotherapeutics and cell-based therapies, in addition to these laboratory-based basic research programs: Cancer Inflammation Immunology Microbial pathogenesis Neuroscience (developmental) Neuroscience (aging and neurodegeneration) Computational pathology (digital pathology and multimodal AI) Precision “omics,” including spatial omics Cutting-edge pathology imaging (e.g., cleared tissues) Glycobiology Point-of-care test innovation Stem cell biology and regenerative medicine Research Highlights A space to highlight the number of publications, grants (numbers and amounts), labs or other research-related facts and figures.
