Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Training

UCI School of Medicine People Managers are encouraged to complete an online (UC Managing Implicit Bias) series of six eCourses designed to increase awareness of implicit bias and reduce its impact at the University. The UCI School of Medicine Diversity Officer and Office of Belonging, Equity and Empowerment can additionally provide DEI training sessions by request to faculty, learners, staff, as well as department chairs. Sessions are tailored to the training needs of the department and include topics such as: Holistic Selection and Screening Practices in Faculty, Staff, and Learner Recruitment, Mitigating Implicit Bias, Microaggression Awareness, Upstander training and Cultural Humility in Clinical Settings.

Sustainable Advancement Initiatives for Leadership (SAIL) Academy

The UCI School of Medicine SAIL Academy is a leadership training program for assistant and associate rank faculty that follows a cohort-model and represents faculty from various UCI Health departments. Participants complete a six-month (Sept. – Mar.), in-person leadership training program to cultivate a professional network, provide access to top UCI leaders and strengthen the skills and confidence of participants as they develop strategic relationships and advanced professional development skills.

HS Clinical Faculty Mentoring Event Series

UCI School of Medicine’s HS Clinical Faculty Mentoring Committee (HCMC) was developed for mentoring initiatives for health sciences faculty and to work collaboratively with departments. HCMC encourages all UCI HS Clinical Faculty to build mentoring relationships and explore career growth opportunities through a series of faculty mentoring events. Events are led by faculty committee members and are designed to facilitate the exchange of diverse perspectives and encourage meaningful faculty connections across different departments within the UCI School of Medicine.

HS Clinical Mentoring Meetups

The UCI School of Medicine offers resources for both mentors and mentees, building relationships for junior faculty to make the most of their beginning years in their career. The HS Clinical Mentoring Meetups was created to support faculty in building professional networks, mentorship, wellness and burnout prevention while creating opportunities to engage with other Non-Senate HS Faculty outside of their home departments. Participants learn about resources at UC Irvine for professional development and promotion while building community.

Samueli Office of Wellbeing Grand Rounds

The UCI Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute hosts Wellbeing Grand Rounds, a quarterly series for UCI Health providers to focus on issues that affect their wellbeing, including critical incidents. Critical incidents, whether they involve faculty, staff or patients, have the potential to interfere with the ability to cope and perform jobs effectively. This series discusses the impact of critical incidents and strategies for navigating the impact using trauma-informed principles to support growth and resilience.
