Accessibility Requirements

The University of California is committed to digital accessibility, ensuring that everyone can access our digital content, including, but not limited to, websites, videos, documents, course materials and software. The Three Standards for Creating Accessible Videos

It is important to incorporate accessibility at the start of a video project to ensure a seamless production process and avoid rework after it’s complete. There are three main components that comprise an accessible video:

Captions

Captions ensure hearing-impaired individuals can access a video. It also supports different learning styles, especially for users who prefer to read rather than listen, and can be helpful when it is not possible or convenient for an individual to play the video’s audio.

Transcripts

Transcripts are text files of your video content, covering everything from spoken dialogue to non-verbal actions.

Audio Descriptions (If needed)

Audio descriptions are narrations of visual information that are necessary when users cannot understand an image or scene from audio alone.

Please visit our Digital Accessibility Resources page for comprehensive guidance on meeting video accessibility requirements.
