The School of Medicine Digital Communications Team (DCT) is committed to supporting the online presence of our programs, units and departments. To ensure that our web presence is effective, aligned with our goals and provides the best possible user experience, we have established the following guidelines for new website requests on the School of Medicine Drupal platform.

Important Note: It is recommended that School of Medicine centers and institutes looking to launch a new website consider the UCI Sites platform, which is currently being utilized by similar entities.

New Website Guidelines

  1. Need for an Online Presence

    • There is a critical need for an online presence. Examples include:
      • The School of Medicine has developed a new program, unit or department.
      • Information about a program, department, unit, etc., is not easily accessible, so a centralized platform is needed to provide users with this information.
  2. Alignment with School of Medicine Goals

    • The website aligns with our School of Medicine website goals and objectives, and its function will support our mission, goals, and brand reputation.
  3. Content for External Audiences

    • The content is primarily for external audiences. Any internally focused content should be developed on an appropriate internal platform, such as SharePoint, to ensure the content's visibility is limited and internal traffic is directed to the correct information and resources.

Process Following Request

If a website request is approved, the DCT will contact the requestor to schedule a website project kick-off meeting. This meeting will be used to brainstorm the new site's look and feel and begin collecting content.

If a website request does not meet the guidelines set forth above, the DCT will respond with the reason(s) why the request cannot be approved and offer alternative solutions.
