Our large-volume services help clinicians provide the most appropriate care for benign or malignant disease, congenital and inherited disorders, trauma and iatrogenic injury. Many specimens are derived from endoscopic biopsies performed by UCI gastroenterologists at the H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center. These include major conditions such as Barrett’s esophagus, chronic gastritis, ulcers, celiac disease, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, and benign and malignant tumors including lymphoma and carcinoma. Research Our research involves esoteric colorectal morphology and diagnostic pitfalls. Some of our past projects have studied pulse granulomas, three-dimensional histology and colorectal stents. Topics of our current projects include colorectal polyps, colonic inertia and colorectal anatomy. Education & Training Educational opportunities for the Gastrointestinal Pathology subspecialty include conferences, residency training and a gastrointestinal pathology fellowship. Pathology Residency Program Our fully-accredited Pathology Residency program provides comprehensive training in anatomic and clinical pathology. Explore our residency program Gastrointestinal Pathology Fellowship Program The Gastrointestinal Pathology Fellowship provides intensive, focused, advanced training in all aspects of gastrointestinal, liver, pancreas and biliary tract disease, including transplant with opportunities for clinical research.
