The UC Irvine Cytogenetics and Genomics Laboratory offers the latest technology and methodology for preparation, analysis and reporting on the processing of bone marrows, lymph nodes and leukemic blood. Our faculty members are experts in the execution and interpretation of a range of diagnostic and management techniques for hematologic cancers, including:
- G-banded chromosome analysis
- Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) analysis
- Non-paraffin fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis
The laboratory is directed by Fabiola Quintero-Rivera, MD, a professor of clinical pathology who is certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics in cytogenetics and laboratory genetics and genomics. The Cytogenetics and Genomics Laboratory is staffed by experienced California-licensed clinical cytogeneticist scientists.
Those training with our team will see a range of diagnoses and procedures, including Routine G-band chromosome analysis and comprehensive FISH panels for hematologic malignancies:
- Acute lymphocytic leukemia (B-ALL)
- Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML)
- Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)
- Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN)
- Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML)
- Myeloid and lymphoid neoplasm with eosinophilia and with tyrosine kinase (MLN-TK) gene fusions
- Plasma cell myeloma
- T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL)
- Lymphomas
- High-grade B-cell lymphoma
- Marginal B-cell lymphoma
- Splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL)
