This is an opportunity to experience research as an intern under the direct supervision of an eligible faculty member in the School of Medicine. Participants have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in biomedical research settings. We welcome all participants interested in this opportunity and look forward to having you in our labs during the fall, spring, winter and summer quarters. Important Note for Prospective Applicants Please be aware that the program is unable to match students with faculty mentors or facilitate introductions. Only students who have independently secured a faculty sponsor within the departments below are eligible to apply. Due to the structure of the program and the limited availability of research placements, applications submitted without an identified faculty sponsor cannot be considered. For those who have not secured a faculty sponsor, explore existing educational programs. Program Overview Eligibility To be eligible for the Scientific Clinical Research Internship Program, you must fall into one of the four participant categories listed below: High school students (16 years or older) UC Irvine undergraduates (summer term only) UC Irvine graduates Non-UC Irvine undergraduates Non-UC Irvine graduates Non-professional or other affiliate program participants Program Length Participant assignment periods may range from a minimum of one (1) month to twelve (12) months. The exact duration of the program will be influenced by the classification of participants, such as UC Irvine and non-UC Irvine undergraduates (UC Irvine undergraduates limited to summer term only) and graduates, non-professional or other affiliate program participants and high school students over the age of 16. How to Find a Faculty Sponsor Our SCRIP program is designed for students who have already secured an internship within a UCI lab with a Faculty Researcher. To be considered for placement, students must secure a UCI faculty sponsor before applying. For those who have not found a faculty sponsor, we encourage interested students to: Connect with university researchers through school counselors, science teachers, or existing academic partnerships. Attend public lectures, outreach programs, or events where faculty may interact with prospective students. Participants Interested in Joining SCRIP Once you have located a research lab in which you would like to conduct research, you must submit the following documentation to your Faculty Sponsor/PI and their respective department: Scientific Clinical Research Internship Program Application Form Scientific Clinical Research Internship Program Medical Clearance Form Medical Emergency Instructions (read and acknowledge only, no other action needed) UCI Health Confidentiality Statement Form UC Waiver of Liability Assumption of Risk Form Intern Competency Assessment Form Lab Worker Safety Training Checklist For SCRIP minors, your parent must complete the Parental Authorization for Minors Form Faculty Sponsors Who Would Like to Host SCRIP Participants Faculty sponsors must submit the following documentation to their associated School of Medicine department to host SCRIP participant in their research labs: SCRIP SOP Overview from Research Compliance UC Irvine School of Medicine Scientific Clinical Research Internship Program Faculty Screening Questionnaire To be completed with the SCRIP participant you are hosting: Lab Worker Safety Training Checklist Intern Competency Assessment Form Department SCRIP Coordinators SCRIP SOP Overview from Research Compliance All forms must be completed, signed and returned before the start of the program. If you need any forms in an alternate format, please contact alondg19@hs.uci.edu.
