Home Education Medical Education Medical Degree Program Curriculum 699A - Departmental Research In Basic Anatomy DESCRIPTION Provides an opportunity for medical students to participate in research programs of the Department of Anatomy. Individual faculty members will sponsor and supervise research projects jointly developed by the individual student and a faculty member. Credit and duration of each project will be variable, based upon the amount of time the student devotes to the project. PREREQUISITES Permission of principal investigator (PI), and approval of the Associate Dean of Clinical Education. RESTRICTIONS Students are responsible for identifying a faculty member who can mentor their project and meet to discuss a research project with a clear research question and objectives. Approval from the Associate Dean of Clinical Education must be obtained prior to beginning a research project. COURSE DIRECTOR Students are responsible for finding their own PI. GRADING The research project is approved in advance by the Associate Dean of Clinical Science Education & Educational Technology and the requirements for satisfactory completion of this elective include prior agreement with a SOM faculty mentor who will also provide a written evaluation at the end of the elective, and a written report from the student, which can be in the form of a brief scientific report, a draft manuscript or poster. You cannot receive credit without the submitted and reviewed write up. Medical Students are graded using the following scale: Honors (H), Pass (P), Fail (F), and Incomplete (I). For further information, please review the Grading Policy. You have 30 days from the date of the grade to appeal any aspect of this grade. Please contact your Clerkship/course Director should you have any questions Requirements for “Pass” To receive a grade of Pass, students must demonstrate successful performance in all the following areas: Knowledge Patient Care Practice-Based Learning Interpersonal & Communication Skills Professionalism Systems-Based Practice Requirements for “Honors” To receive a grade of Honors, students must demonstrate exceptional performance in all the following areas: Knowledge Patient Care Practice-Based Learning Interpersonal & Communication Skills Professionalism Systems-Based Practice Grounds for “Incomplete” You will not be issued a grade until all elements of the course have been completed. REMEDIATION Remediation, if needed, will be designed by the Course Director to suit the issue at hand. Grounds for “Fail”: You will receive a grade of "Fail" if the requirements for passing the course have not been met. Please refer to the Grading Policy for the impact of the "Fail" grade to the transcript. If the student fails the elective a grade of "F" will be permanently recorded on his/her transcript. The student can repeat the course for a second grade, however, the "F" will not be removed from the transcript.
