Through structured mentorship and ongoing support, the program helps participants overcome barriers, achieve their professional and educational goals and advance their careers in healthcare. About the Program Goals The EWAB initiative is committed to empowering women in health sciences who face systemic gender-based barriers in their countries. By connecting them with mentors from UCI School of Medicine, EWAB provides a structured mentorship program to foster professional growth, enhance educational opportunities, and equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to overcome challenges in their respective fields. The program is designed to create a supportive network that encourages knowledge-sharing, career development and advocacy for gender equity in healthcare. Through biannual mentorship meetings and ongoing communication, EWAB helps mentees navigate their professional journeys and achieve their aspirations. Mission EWAB is dedicated to empowering women in health sciences from countries facing systemic gender discrimination. Through structured mentorship, educational opportunities, and professional support, we aim to equip women with the skills and confidence needed to overcome barriers and advance their careers in healthcare. Vision To create a global network where women in health sciences, despite geographical and societal challenges, have access to mentorship, knowledge, and opportunities that enable them to thrive and contribute to healthcare advancements worldwide. Key Program Features 2-year mentorship duration Biannual Zoom meetings Monthly email follow-ups How the Program Works Step 1 Submit an application with your goals. Step 2 Get matched with a UCI School of Medicine mentor. Step 3 Engage in biannual virtual mentorship meetings and ongoing communication. Application Process Apply as a Mentee Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be citizens of one of the 10 lowest-ranked countries for gender equity, according to the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2024. Countries not listed due to their lack of participation in global organizations will be accepted and, in some cases, prioritized. Applicants must be in their final year of undergraduate studies or above (including any post-graduate studies, early- or mid-career professionals in the health sciences). submit mentee application Apply as a Mentor Eligibility Criteria: Must be UCI faculty members in the health sciences.
