Information for Incoming Students

Your UCInetID is a name-based user name at UCI listed on your applicant portal. It consists of a 3-8 letter combination of your first and last name. A UCInetID is not a Student ID which consists of all numbers.

You will need to activate your UCInetID for Financial Aid, Housing, and Student Health, then once you matriculate, you will need your UCInetID to log onto other university systems. As an applicant, you can activate your UCInetID at the following link: UCInetID Activation. You will need the following information to activate your UCInetID:

• Your UCInetID and UCI Student ID Number (listed on the STATUS tab of your applicant portal)
• Your birth date (mm/dd/yyyy)
• The last four digits of your social security number
• Remember, you will need the password you created for your UCInetID to log into most university systems.

UC Irvine Student Housing is now accepting applications! Applications are processed in the order received and include a $20 processing fee for all first-time housing applications. To maximize your housing options, complete your application today. You do not have to submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) before completing your application, as this was automatically transmitted to housing when you indicated your acceptance through your applicant portal. You will, however, need to activate your UCInetID (not Student ID or AAMC ID) and password to access the housing application. If you have forgotten your UCInet ID password, you can change or reset your password by clicking here. Your UCInetID can be found on the STATUS tab home screen of your applicant portal.

Learn more about on-campus housing options on the Housing Website. Housing is not guaranteed (with the exception to MSTP, PRIME-LC, and LEAD-ABC students) so explore other options as well, including on-campus privately-managed American Campus Communities (furnished apartments) and off-campus options.

The Statement of Legal Residence is used by the campus registrar to decide your legal state of residence for assessment of tuition and fees. All UC Irvine students are required to complete this form prior to matriculation. You will need an activated UCInetID to complete this form.

To comply with UC's immunization requirements, ALL incoming UC students, including medical students, are REQUIRED to undergo screening for Tuberculosis.

As an incoming student at UC Irvine, your health records will be managed by the Student Health Center. You will also be required to obtain/show proof of being vaccinated to be in compliance with the School of Medicine immunization requirements.

Please note: Your Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B are requirements specific to medical students and should be uploaded to the Student Health Center system with your other required immunizations to be included as a part of your student health record. All School of Medicine requirements will need to be uploaded and reviewed again through a separate system, MyRecordTracker, after you matriculate at the School of Medicine. You will receive further information about MyRecordTracker during your student orientation.

The UC Irvine SHIP waiver period is:

• June 29, 2026–July 20, 2026 for first-year medical students

As a student at UC Irvine, you will be required to have health insurance coverage. As an accepted student, you are automatically enrolled in UC Irvine SHIP (student health insurance plan). A full description of the UC Irvine SHIP insurance plan can be found at https://studenthealth.uci.edu/graduate-insurance/.

If you choose to waive out of the UC Irvine SHIP, then you must provide proof of health insurance coverage that complies with UC’s waiver criteria. Details regarding UC Irvine SHIP waiver criteria, the waiver process, and the online waiver application can be found at: https://studenthealth.uci.edu/waiving-uc-irvine-ship/. The links to the 3rd-party waiver vendor, Academic Health Plans (AHP), are activated on the first day of the relevant waiver period. A $50.00 fee will be charged to your ZOT account if you submit a waiver after the published deadline date. This fee is not charged to your account if your UC Irvine SHIP waiver is ultimately denied.

If you choose the UC Irvine SHIP plan, your coverage as a first-year medical student starts August 3, 2026.

**Attention: Scholarship Recipients**

We understand that some students may choose to waive out of the university's GSHIP plan due to their existing coverage. We want to emphasize that waiving out does not result in a refund of the associated funds. Your award will be adjusted accordingly to only cover tuition and fees as outlined in your award letter

Dependent Coverage

All graduate students who are enrolled in GSHIP have the option to enroll eligible dependents in a voluntary plan. The plan provides medical insurance and the option to add dental and vision benefits. NOTE: If both student parents are covered by GSHIP, their children may be covered as the dependents of either student, but not both.

Enrollment in the dependent plan is managed by Academic Health Plans (AHP) on behalf of GSHIP and all carriers. Students who develop respiratory illness should not participate in clinical rotations until the following criteria are met:

1. Stay Home While Ill
   1. Do not report to your clinical rotation if you have:
      1. Fever (≥100°F / 37.8°C)
      2. New cough, sore throat, runny nose, or congestion
      3. Vomiting or diarrhea
      4. Any symptoms that make you feel too ill to safely participate in patient care
   2. Notify your clerkship coordinator or supervising team as soon as possible.
2. Meet Return-to-Rotation Criteria
   
   1. You may return to your clinical rotation when ALL of the following are true:
      1. At least 24 hours have passed since your last fever (without using fever-reducing medications);
      2. Your respiratory symptoms are improving and are mild enough that you can safely care for patients;
         1. You have had no vomiting or diarrhea for at least 24 hours;
         2. You feel well enough to fully participate in clinical duties.
3. Wear a Mask for 10 Days
   
   1. After returning to clinical activities, you must wear a well-fitting medical mask through Day 10 after: symptom onset, or your first positive test if you remained asymptomatic.
   2. Masking is required during all patient care activities and in shared clinical spaces.
4. Protect High-Risk Patients
   
   1. If you continue to have frequent coughing, require repeated removal of your mask to manage symptoms, or your symptoms worsen after returning, do not provide direct patient care and contact your clerkship director or Student Health for further guidance.
   2. Students rotating in high-risk settings (e.g., Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant, NICU, ICU, Transplant Units) may be subject to additional site-specific infection prevention requirements.
5. Practice Infection Prevention
   
   1. After returning to clinical activities:
      1. Follow all hospital infection prevention policies.
      2. Perform meticulous hand hygiene.
      3. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
      4. Avoid patient care if new fever or worsening symptoms develop.

Please be advised that AMCAS does not forward transcripts to medical schools. Therefore, you will need to order an official transcript from the undergraduate and graduate institutions where you were awarded a degree. In addition, you will need to provide official transcripts verifying all completed prerequisite coursework. The UC Irvine School of Medicine Admissions Office must receive these transcript(s) prior to matriculation and by July 15th to guarantee your matriculation. Verification of degree(s) must be on the transcripts. If your institution cannot provide verification of the degree awarded on a final transcript by this date, please provide an official letter from the department chair verifying that the requirements have been met for the degree. Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Associate Dean of Admissions prior to July 1st. Forward your request for an exception through your applicant portal.

Transcripts can be electronically sent directly from the institution to medadmit@uci.edu using one of the approved electronic third-party vendors: National Clearing House, Parchment, Credentials eScrip-Safe. You can also send official hard copies directly to our mailing address at:

All incoming students are required to review, sign, and submit the required matriculation documents by Thursday, July 30, 2026. Completion of these documents is required before you may matriculate into the UC Irvine School of Medicine.

A DocuSign link will be emailed to you. Once you receive it, click the link to review, sign, and submit the required documents electronically.

The DocuSign packet includes the following:

• Confidentiality Agreement
• Technical Standards Attestation
• Authorization and Consent to Photograph and Publish

Financial Aid for Medical Students

Federal Loan Requirement (For Students Receiving Federal Aid)

Entering medical students are required to complete the following loan documents at www.studentaid.gov in order to receive their federal financial aid:

• Online entrance counseling
• Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the Direct Unsubsidized loan

Students must complete these documents by July 15th to ensure their aid is processed before the start of school.

The purpose of the Federal Loans Entrance Counseling is to share with you everything you are required to know about the loans you are borrowing to finance your medical school education. The entrance counseling also covers a few other strategies relevant to financing your education and to successfully manage your money as a student. It is strongly recommended that you complete the entrance counseling at the time that you receive your financial aid package, as it will help you to understand the types of loans that are included in your financial aid package.

Please allow 30-45 minutes to complete an online entrance counseling session and the MPNs.

Private Loans

We recommend accepting any federal student loans you’ve been offered before applying for a private loan. Private loans can be used to cover remaining costs, up to your Cost of Attendance. If you’re approved for a private loan, your lender will send the loan details to our office for certification. Please also email us at cmfao@uci.edu once you’ve been approved so we can track the school certification process. After we receive the loan information from your lender, please allow 5–7 business days for us to review and process your request. The entire loan process, from certification to release of funds, may take up to 4 to 6 weeks.

You can view the UC Preferred Lender List on ELMSelect. Since eligibility requirements vary by lender, please contact your lender directly to confirm their application steps and requirements.

If you have questions about your Federal Loans Entrance Counseling, please feel free to contact the School of Medicine Financial Aid Office at (949) 824-6476 or by email at cmfao@uci.edu.

You will need a ZotKey (student ID card) while at UCI. You must submit a photo online and have it approved before orientation. Photos are approved/denied within 48 hours (excluding weekends). If your photo is denied, you must submit another photo for approval. There is no maximum to how many times a photo can be denied, so please submit early!

Orientation is mandatory and will be held in person from Monday, August 3, through Friday, August 7, 2026, at the UC Irvine School of Medicine – Medical Education Campus. The week will include various activities, informational sessions and boot camp training. Due to a full schedule of activities, please plan to reserve each day from 8 a.m.–5 p.m during Orientation week. The week will conclude with the mandatory White Coat Ceremony.

To prepare for your arrival, we will need two items completed by Wednesday, July 1, 2026:

• Introduction Slide: As part of Orientation, we’ll be introducing you to your peers, and we ask that you submit a PowerPoint slide with specific information. Instructions were sent to you via email. If you need the instructions resent, please contact the Admissions Team through your applicant portal.
• Dietary Restrictions: All students must complete the Dietary Restrictions Survey — even if you do not have any dietary restrictions — as it also includes details about Parent Day and UC Irvine swag.

Orientation Schedule: You will receive your orientation schedule and check-in details via email one week prior to Orientation.

The White Coat Ceremony is currently scheduled to be held in person at the Irvine Barclay Theatre on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 7pm PST. This is a ticketed event for invited guests. You will receive an email from the Admissions Office to fill out a survey. If you need the link or have questions, please email through your Application Portal. Everyone will receive their tickets at orientation.

Medical Degree Program Curriculum

All students are required to have an iPad by the first week of medical school. You will be awarded a $300 technology scholarship to be used toward the purchase of an iPad. (Note: Prices below are quoted from the Apple Education store.)

• We recommend that you purchase an iPad Pro model to be able to take full advantage of the screen size/resolution and processing speeds. The size of your screen is a personal preference, and we do not have a particular recommendation there. However, if cost is an issue, the $429 iPad is a good option and the UC Irvine’s bookstore — the Hill — is also an Apple retailer who is still offering the 11-inch iPad model for $329. These models support the $69 Apple Pencil (USB-C). There are also several iPad models in between these two to align with your needs.
• For any model, we strongly recommend getting the Apple Pencil — our students have really benefited from the ability to handwrite notes and annotate/draw during their studies. Again, the Apple Pencil (USB-C) is $69 and the Apple Pencil Pro is $119. Some students also really like the Magic Keyboard, so you may want to consider that as well, depending on your comfort with typing on the glass, built-in keyboard. Another strong recommendation — AppleCare. Lecture halls have small desks and the screen repair costs can get expensive.
• You may purchase your iPad from any vendor; however, you can receive special education pricing when purchasing from the Apple Education Store and their “Back to School” deal, if applicable.
• Many of you may ask what you should do if you already have an iPad. If your iPad is a recent model, then you can apply that $300 towards technology accessories (Pencil and/or Keyboard), or even towards a laptop or additional device if desired. If your iPad is not a recent model, we recommend that you upgrade now so that you have a device to take high-stakes exams and use with ultrasound devices.
• In regard to storage size, students can function well with the 128GB base size if they are using the device just for medical school; however, you will need to have a reliable cloud storage provider to save documents that are not readily being used. Many students prefer the larger 256GB size to have more flexibility in using the device outside of coursework.

Beginning June 1, AAMC will send each accepted student a unique survey link via email to access the MSQ. The survey links will be sent from msq@aamc.org to the email address submitted by each student when filling out their AMCAS application. As additional individuals are accepted for admission, they will receive their links on a rolling basis, two weeks after the acceptances are reported to AMCAS. Students who have problems accessing the MSQ should contact MSQ staff directly at msq@aamc.org and include their full name and AAMC ID in their message.
