AI Chatbots Linked To Psychosis
Doctors say recent AI-related cases are different because the chatbots are participating in the delusions and, at times, reinforcing them. “They simulate human relationships,” said Adrian Preda, a psychiatry professor at the University of California, Irvine. “Nothing in human history has done that before.” Preda likens AI-induced psychosis to monomania, a state of fixation on certain ideas, which he described in a recent article.

Limited Diversity in FDA Trials Could Impact Drug Safety & Efficacy
Researchers at UC Riverside and UC Irvine examined data from 341 pivotal trials, the large, final-stage studies used to gain FDA approval for new drugs, between 2017 and 2023. They observed a decline in Black and Hispanic enrollment beginning in 2021, even as calls for greater equity in science and medicine intensified. Asian representation increased over this period, while white participation remained largely stable.
