Neuropolitics Lecture Series: From Democracy to Autocracy - Suicide by False Belief
Join the UC Irvine Center for Neuropolitics and featured speaker Joe Pierre, MD. Discussion on false beliefs stemming from disinformation has been exploited by politicians to erode trust in reliable sources of information, fuel support of anti-establishment demagogues, and incite people to back anti-democratic political movements. In the US, such false beliefs have become eminently consequential. This talk presents a "3M Model" based on mistrust, misinformation, and motivated reasoning to better understand the ubiquity of false belief and to develop interventions that might lessen their grip on the American psyche.
