This two-day conference for primary care and other health providers will integrate recent scientific data with current clinical practice regarding the prevention, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of substance use disorders. Topics will also include management of pain-related conditions, collaborative care, and other considerations in order to promote the development of SUD treatment in a primary care setting.

Learning Objectives:

  • Effectively screen for substance misuse
  • Utilize motivational interviewing to assess readiness for change and move patients along the continuum of change behavior
  • Identify evidence-based treatments available in primary care settings for substance use disorders
  • Develop/adapt new models of care to integrate substance use treatment into primary care settings
  • Understand referral options and level of care placement based on American Society of Addiction Medicine Criteria
  • Understand the importance of addressing other psychiatric disorders in patients with substance use disorders
  • Effectively utilize buprenorphine for chronic pain and opioid use disorder
  • Manage common pain conditions with non-opioid therapies
