  • TNT Core Faculty
  • Associate Professor, Clinical Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences

Bio

Farah Khorassani is a psychiatric pharmacist with a passion for improving psychotropic prescribing and pharmacy education. Khorassani was the education and training consultant for a federal grant awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which funded pharmacy student training to screen for substance use. Khorassani also served as the founding faculty advisor for the student chapter of the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) at St. John's University. An advocate for mental health discussion in all populations, she has also been involved in research exploring anxiety in pharmacy students. Clinically, Dr. Khorassani has worked to address the underutilization of long-acting injectable (LAI) psychotropics, particularly in those with severe mental illness. At Bellevue Hospital, she worked to get multiple LAIs added to the formulary so that these medications could be more accessible to their underserved population. Khorassani has combined her enthusiasm for teaching and collaborative skills to become involved in multidisciplinary education. Besides classroom and experiential teaching, she also enjoys mentoring pharmacy students, residents and other healthcare providers.
