The UC Irvine regional anesthesiology and acute pain team strives to enhance perioperative pain management, promoting quicker recovery, shorter hospital stays and better patient outcomes. Our team collaborates closely with the primary care team and employs rational, evidence-based treatment options to create effective care plans. We leverage advanced ultrasound and nerve stimulation technologies to ensure that clinical interventions are precise and safe.

Regional Anesthesiology

Our regional anesthesiology team is responsible for employing current interventions for postoperative pain control and alternatives to general anesthesia when applicable.

They provide regional anesthetic blocks for a wide range of surgical, cancer and complex trauma-related procedures, including epidural analgesia, image-guided peripheral nerve blocks, fascial plane blocks and infusion catheters.

Acute Pain Medicine

Our acute pain medicine clinicians provide around-the-clock care for patients experiencing acute postoperative, post-traumatic and severe chronic pain. The acute pain team comprises residents, fellows, nurse practitioners and faculty physicians specializing in acute and chronic anesthesia. This team uses a multimodal approach that integrates non-opioid and opioid analgesics, regional anesthetic blocks and patient-controlled analgesia to manage acute pain effectively. Additionally, they lend their clinical expertise to medical and surgical teams for consultations on complex pharmacological management, including neuraxial, parenteral and enteral pain medications.
