Cultural and Contextual Considerations in the Early Identification of Risk for Psychosis

Lecture by Jason Schiffman, PhD, Professor and Director of Clinical Training, Department of Psychological Science, UCI School of Social Ecology

Objectives:

  • Provide an overview of psychosis and risk, with a focus on social/societal/systems influences
  • Identify signs of psychosis-risk symptoms through exposure to risk assessment tools
  • Recognize how attention to cultural and contextual factors inform assessment strategies
  • Describe actions that can be taken to change the status quo with respect to potential biases and health disparities in this field
  • Highlight opportunities for partnership
